Is your holiday calendar empty enough?

Today’s crafty moment : Glass “bracelets” so we can tell whose is whose. This time of year can be utterly chaotic, with the invitations and obligations tripping over each other to make a tangled web of shoulds and coulds.  It can cause tension and drama, but I hope that’s not happening to you?  My life has changed enough in the last couple of years that it’s now easier to follow the KISS principle, mostly thanks to homeschooling.  We have a cello party this week, and our own holiday party next week, but other than that the calendar is pretty clear of obligations on our part, and has left room for family and friends to come visit which I’m really looking forward to :).

However, I just realized I’ve double-booked on Thursday, crap!  Now to figure out how to go to cello and the BlogHer Holiday Meetup … I will find a way though so please let me know if you’ll be there so I can say hello!!

In the newfound slowness, I’m determined to do some crafty things and let the boys be more creative and less worksheet-ish.  This morning we ended up making glass-bracelets before breakfast, as I’m tired of washing 4 glasses after every meal and want to use the same one all day.  It helps that we drink out of jam jars, as everything else seems to break faster than I can buy them.  They’re sturdy and I have more of them than I know what to do with!  It was a softer start to the day, and a good one.

How empty is your calendar?  Empty enough to fit in some slow things?  Are you traveling, or staying home?  I’ve come to love that we’re home, and am glad that it’s worked out that were tenant-less for the last two weeks of the year, making easy room for visitors.  It’s really nice to have the space to ourselves for a bit too :).

To finding moments to savor,

SaneMom

I guess this is a bit off subject, but is anyone else feeling entirely undervalued this season? I feel like I'm juggling parties, dinners (with and without various parts of the family), shopping, cards, decorations, flu shots, and getting us all shipped and prepped for a week in Florida with three kids, and no one seems to have any idea what the h*** I am doing all day long! I even pulled off what I considered a major save this weekend because as we were putting the tree up I realized that all our ornaments are in storage and can't be reached at the moment. I thought I made a great save by realizing that we had a home craft kit to make foam gingerbread men with stickers, and the kids happily made and then put up on the tree something like 20 of them. They were thrilled, they ooohed and ahhed over the lights and the addition of three new nutcracker ornaments, and all ended well. But does anyone have any idea mom's stress level pulling this off so no one even noticed the major catastrophe that almost occurred??? The kids love it all of course, but have no idea what goes into it. And frankly, since we will be away for Christmas, my husband could care less whether we even have a tree or decorations... Is it me???

I'll be at the cocktail party! Looking forward to seeing you whenever you get there.

I am hypersensitive to feeling overbooked. Even a hint of overbooking makes me start to ramp up into insanity. I got a head start on stuff but I still feel behind. I'm trying to be all Ann Lamott Bird by Bird about it but it's a conscious effort. I spend the entire month feeling as though I'm forgetting something. And I might be! I did print my holiday card labels right on the first try, though, so there's a triumph.

@Karin ... not so much this year but often YES, and when there are any trips planned it's a given that I don't feel appreciated. sorry you're so swamped, and congrats on all you pulled off, and continue to do ... you are awesome!

@Kizz ... yay for holiday labels. no cards going to happen here. i feel stress the minute i have something in the near future on my calendar that involves any planning/doing on my part. ie tonight ... if I were going straight to blogher tonight I'd be thrilled, but having to go by way of cello, with hot food and cranky boys and the possibility that the small one will guilt me about ditching out? these things drive me crazy. make my stomach hurt at times to be honest.

Well, it's never been...never been this full! Oh my gosh! I just don't know where to start.
